Summary

Carol Baron interviews arranger and pianist Milton Kraus, who had a varied career in broadcasting and popular music. They discuss Kraus's life and career as a musician and composer, his family background, his studies at City College of the City University of New York, Juilliard (then the Institute of Musical Art), NYU (the School of Music Education), and later privately with Tibor Serly, Paul Creston and Stefan Wolpe. He talks about S. Wolpe, his teaching techniques and methods, and his influence on all of his students' musical careers. He also speaks about Wolpe's 12-tone music and mentions such composers as Milton Babbitt, Schoenberg and Webern known for their serialism in music. Kraus also talks about his work as a pianist and composer for radio, television and film productions.
