- Description
- 1 videodisc (NTSC) (14 min.) : si., col.; 4 3/4 in.
- Summary
- Compilation of four short films depicting excerpts from performances by the Ice Capades. Much of the second film is out of focus. The fourth, filmed in 1955, is shot from a different vantage point. Yeichi Nimura may have been interested in the Ice Capades for several reasons. He frequently coached performers in "Oriental" movement, and may have done so for the Madame Butterfly production number. The Nutcracker number was choreographed in 1957 by Ron Fletcher, one of his former students, who became a noted choreographer of ice shows. Fletcher may also have choreographed other numbers seen in these films. A duet by a couple in blue incorporates many balletic movements and poses, which may reflect the influence of Aida Alvarez, a teacher at Nimura's Ballet Arts Studio who was engaged to tour with and give ballet lessons to the Ice Capades company. Guest choreographer José Greco, another link to the dance world, staged the Carmen production number. Other students or colleagues of Nimura may have been associated with the company as performers or creative staff.
