- Summary
- Fifth and final seminar in a series. Much of the discussion focuses on choreographer George Balanchine's collaboration with composer Igor Stravinsky. Specific dance works discussed include: Agon, The flood (both in its television version, called Noah and the Flood, and its stage version), Orpheus, and Le baiser de la fée. Also discussed are the New York City Ballet's Stravinsky Festival of 1972; Stravinsky's opinion of Jerome Robbins' choreography, especially for The cage and Les noces; Stravinsky's love of Tchaikovsky's music; Stravinsky's publishers and the sales of his scores; conductors' difficulties in working with Stravinsky's scores. Craft contributes many reminiscences of Balanchine and Stravinsky both in professional and private life. Volkov relates how he came to write Balanchine's Tchaikovsky, and reads an extract from the book. The seminar ends with a question-and-answer session with the audience.
