Details
- Description
- 1 drawing : ink and wash on cartridge paper; 23 x 220 cm.
- Summary
- The view from Posillipo on the northern coast of the Bay of Naples, a vista that includes both Naples and Mount Vesuvius, was a favorite for both artists and Grand Tourists. In this anonymous piece, a plume of smoke rises from Vesuvius; to the right is the island of Capri. The road in the foreground is almost certainly Via Posillipo, which was built between 1812 and 1824, and considerably improved the accessibility of the location.
