Introduction to Birmingham Alabama Symphony concert. Andre Kostelanetz announces classical program and pays tribute to America's composers and its many fine orchestras -- CBC interview. Hugh Thompson, music editor of the Toronto Daily Star, interviews Andre Kostelanetz's on the occasion of his 30th anniversary in radio. A thoughtful conversation, as Kostelanetz recalls his early career in Russia and memorable train trip across the remote Canadian West that fueled his lifelong enthusiasm for broadcasting -- The Tex and Jinx Show (excerpts). Tex McCrary and Jinx Falkenburg interview Andre Kostelanetz. Kostelanetz entertains them and the radio listeners with some of his adventures and misadventures while on concert tours throughout the world, and plays tapes of truly exotic sounds he recently recorded, principally in the Far East [Chinese funeral procession (Hong Kong) ; Ceremonial closing of the Tower of London (England) ; March of the elephants, from the Duruthu Perahera Festival (Sri Lanka) ; Buddhist temple bell (Bangkok, Thailand) ; Bell of Sacré Cœur Basilica (Paris, France) ; Buddhist temple bell (Tokyo, Japan) ; China night (popular song), performed by the Flying Olive Band (Hong Kong) ; Japanese farewell song (Sayonara) / by Hasegawa Yoshida (sung by Kay Cee Jones) ; Excerpt of Berceuse / by Norodom Sihanouk, King of Cambodia (performed by Kostelanetz at the piano)].
