Summary
In the first lecture Regine Astier discusses Baroque dance and the choreographic work, With sword drawn he dances; the type of research needed to create this work and how it helps the performers; the similarities between Baroque dance and fencing; and includes a reading about gentlemen of the 17th century. In the second lecture Astier discusses the similarities between Baroque dance and fencing including the manipulation of energy, the terminology and the bows; the education of a gentleman in the 17th century from childhood beginning with instruction from a dancing master.
