- "In 1999 Chuck Close began taking photographs using the daguerreotype process, working with Jerry Spagnoli in his New York studio. Over the next two years he photographed Cindy Sherman, James Turrell, Gregory Crewdson, Elizabeth Murray, Kiki Smith, Ellen Gallagher, James Siena, Laurie Anderson, Philip Glass, Cecily Brown, Lyle Ashton Harris, Bob Holman, Carroll Dunham, Lisa Yuskavage, Andres Serrano, Elizabeth Peyton, Terry Winters, Lorna Simpson, Robert Wilson and himself for this book. The praise poems by Bob Holman were written to accompany these photographs and were completed in 2001-2003. The enclosed compact disc was recorded by Bob Holman at Village Digital in New York City. The daguerreotypes were scanned and printed digitally by David Adamson in Washington, D.C. Typography and letterpress printing by Ruth Lingen in New York City. Edition binding by Mark Tomlinson in Easthampton, MA. Assistants on the project were Mark Wagner and Bryan Whitson. The paper is Somerset. The typefaces are foundry Bulmer and Bodoni, set by hand. The cloth is Buckram"--T.p. verso.
- Consists of 21 folders of black buckram over boards. The first contains the title page (on a double leaf) with colophon information on verso; a loosely inserted self-port. of Close, numbered, signed in pencil and dated; and a CD, inserted in pocket mounted inside back board. The remaining 20 each contain a full-page portrait and a poem, on sheets mounted inside front and back boards. Of these 20, the 1st, 6th, 11th and 16th each have strip mounted on front board with 5 small reproductions of the ports. contained in the following 5 folders.
- Accompanied by CD containing spoken word versions of the poems, read by Holman, in pocket mounted inside back board of first folder.

- Folders are contained in a fall-down back case covered in black buckram with dark gray paper label on front cover, secured with two peg clasps on the fore-edge. Full-page reproductions of daguerreotypes showing the back of a hand and its palm are mounted inside front and back of the case.
