Summary
  • Collection of engraved portraits of members of the House of Medici and other rulers of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, from various mid-17th to late 18th-century sources. Includes illustrated genealogical tables, depictions of coins and portrait medallions, and other related material.
  • Includes engraved t.p. and many portraits from Chronologica series simulacrorum regiae familiae Mediceae centum expressa toreumis, published by Giuseppe Allegrini, Florence, 1761; title on engraved t.p. reads: Regiae familiae Mediceorum Etruriae principum effigies. This work contained portraits engraved by Adriaen Haelwegh, ca. 1670, and by Francesco Allegrini after Giuseppe Zocchi.
  • Includes plates from: Orsini, Ignazio. Storia delle monete de' Granduchi di Toscana, della Casa de' Medici e di quelle dell' augustissimo imperatore Francesco di Lorena come granduca di Toscana. Firenze : G.P. Giovannelli, 1756.
  • Includes 3 full-page hand-drawn and painted pictorial genealogical tables by Fernando Morozzi, dated 1776-1777; folding pictorial geneal. table (plate mark ca. 64 x 125 cm.) engraved by F. Allegrini after G.B. Dei, 1761; full-page engraved pictorial geneal. table.
  • Includes a group portrait around Grand Duke Ferdinand II, and a fireworks print recording the wedding celebration of Violante, duchess of Bavaria, and Ferdinando, grand prince of Tuscany, 1688.
  • Includes also ca. 25 leaves containing engraved portraits of prominent Florentines, e.g. Pope Clement XII, Francesco Guicciardini, Michelangelo, Boccaccio, Galileo, Amerigo Vespucci, Brunelleschi, Dante, Alberti.
  • Other engravers include Carlo Gregori, Antonio Pazzi, G.M. Preisler, Theodor Verkruys and Arnold van Westerhout.
  • In all, 261 ports. and 45 other prints. Prints are various sizes, mounted chiefly 1 or 2 to a leaf; some leaves include 5 or more smaller ports. Prints depicting coins and medallions are usually mounted 4 or more to a leaf, with ms. legends. Leaves containing prints are numbered 1-153, with several omissions; several blank leaves are not numbered.
