- Description
- [17] leaves : samples; 17 cm. in box 20 x 21 x 6 cm.
- Alternative Title
- Writing red.
- Celebration red: celebrate every red thing.
- Subject
- Genre/Form
- Artists' books – United States – 21st century.
- Sample books – United States – 21st century.
- Wall hangings.
- Note
- "The edition is strictly limited to 45 copies, each numbered and signed by the artist"--Colophon.
- "Produced between summer 2005 and summer 2006. Designed and produced by Katherine Kuehn. Typography by Anne Noonan & Steve Clay. Printed at Soho Letterpress. Bound by Judith Ivry. Boxes by Portfoliobox, Inc."--Colophon.
- The samples are stitched onto 15 of the 17 leaves. Each leaf is fastened onto a fold in the accordion-style binding structure. The samples are 6 1/4-inch squares of fabric and paper archival material derived primarily from the artist's studio. "There is stamping and printing anew on some of the squares"--Leaf [1]. Each sample has an identifying caption.
- Except for t.p. and colophon, text is printed on the verso of the leaves. The book is hinged by the accordion-fold binding at its top and opens like a book of charts. When lifted by the top cover the accordion opens and the samples display one below the other. Book can also hang unfolded on a wall with all samples visible.
- "To this collection of fragmented material I have added some texts titled 'Writing red.' These texts are a written performance of the 1962 Fluxus event score 'Celebration red: celebrate every red thing'"--Leaf [1].
- Binding (note)
- Each end of accordion structure attached to a separate board. Upper board of light brown cardboard, with a hole for hanging; lower board covered with light brown felt. Issued in light brown cloth-covered clamshell box.
