Summary

Chronicles the political, social, and technological history of the Panama Canal, and the unheralded 100,000 West Indian black laborers who built it at a cost of 30,000 lives. Archival footage and stills are combined with interviews with surviving workers who describe their struggles against racist policies, dangerous working conditions, unfair labor practices, and lack of recognition from Panama and the United States.
