Summary
Documentary on the life and career of producer Lucille Lortel (1900-1999), featuring archival footage, photographs, and excerpts from interviews with Lortel and her friends and colleagues. Topics discussed include Lortel's producing activites in Westport, Connecticut, at the White Barn Theatre, in New York at the Theatre de Lys, renamed the Lucille Lortel Theatre in 1981, and with the ANTA matinee series. Lortel discusses her relationships with playwrights such as Athol Fugard and Jean Genet, the highly successful run of The threepenny opera she produced at the Theatre de Lys, and her early career as a stage and film actress. Includes a clip from her 1929 film The man who laughed last, co-starring Sessue Hayakawa.
