- Summary
- The Bettie Esther Parham Scrapbooks (1880s-1970s) depict aspects of Parham's personal and professional life as a manufacturer and marketer of hair and beauty products geared toward Black women from the 1940s to the early 1970s.
- Aspects of Parham's personal life are documented by images of her as a teenager, a young woman, and later in life. Collection includes candid shots of her wedding and other social gatherings, including one depicting model Dorothea Towles. Views of her Croton-on-Hudson estate include the grounds, house, interiors and furnishings.
- Documentation of Parham's business, the National Beauty Supply Company and its subsidiaries, includes a series of marketing photos depicting models wearing her wigs or demonstrating the use of her hair products. Also included are views of Parham in front of her store on 125th Street in Harlem, New York; Parham participating in a trade show. Collection includes a promotional photo of the Mills Brothers who were among the celebrities promoting her products.

- Bettie Esther Parham founded the National Beauty Supply Company and its subsidiaries which manufactured and marketed hair and beauty products for Black women from the 1940s throughout the early 1970s. She was the first black retail owner on 125th Street in Harlem and the first African American to expand her business to Africa.
