- Summary
- The Earl Sydnor Photograph Collection documents aspects of actor and photographer Earl Sydnor's professional career, military activities, and personal life. The collection consists of portraits; publicity photographs documenting his stage and television performances; individual and group portraits and candid shots documenting his U.S. Army career; and views of his home. The collection includes very few photographs taken by Sydnor. There is no documentation of his association with Uncle Ben's rice products in the United States, and limited documentation of his personal life.
- Publicity photographs documenting Sydnor's thespian pursuits show Sydnor in "Abe Lincoln in Illinois," "An Evening for Merlin Finch," "Cabin in the Sky," "First Monday in October," "La Ronde," "The Ponder Heart," "Sunday Sinners," and "Two on an Island." Also included are depictions of his television role in the "The Defenders" and in an Uncle Ben's Rice commercial produced and televised in France. Sydnor is shown in military uniform in individual and group portraits and candid shots, including two group portraits with Duke Ellington. Also included are clippings and his Noncommissioned Officer Letter Orders. Collection contains views of Sydnor's home featured in the May 1945 issue of "The American Home," a popular home-decorating magazine.
