Summary
Portrayal of two pairs of dancers, probably representing larger groups, in two dances performed at the Académie Royale de Musique (Paris Opéra). The boys' roles were danced by little girls.

  • Les Danseuses viennoises was a troupe of child performers known for their precision dancing, organized by Josephine Weiss, ballet mistress at the Josephstadt Theatre in Vienna. The troupe, composed of thirty-six little girls, made its debut at the Paris Opéra in 1845; one of its numbers was a pas hongrois or Hungarian dance. This print may commemorate this occasion.
