- Summary
- Cynthia Reynolds (dancer) discusses seeing her first Erick Hawkins dance concert; dancing with Ethel Butler and learning Martha Graham technique; seeing how Lillo Way and Nadia Diachenko had changed since dancing with Hawkins; first studying with Erick Hawkins at a workshop at the American University at Wolf Trap Farm Park in 1972; how she became a Hawkins company member; her first performance with the company in Jan. 1976; taking the 4:30 pm company class at the Hawkins studio; taking the beginner 7:30 pm class to undo bad habits and tendencies; teaching Alexander technique; works she enjoyed dancing include Heyoka, Classic Kite tails, Plains daybreak, and Agathlon; Hawkins firing the entire company in 1978 and rehiring some of them several days later; Hawkins injuring his foot during performance of Classic kite tails and how the company had to adapt and dance during the rest of the performance; the creation and rehearsal process for New Moon; Reynolds deciding to leave for the first time during the creation process to travel to Cypress on a spiritual journey; dancing with the company from 1976-1993; how the company changed after Hawkins' stroke and Reynolds deciding to leave the company; concludes with Reynolds taking about teaching Alexander technique to actors and vocalists.
