- Summary
- Claudia Gitelman discusses Hanya Holm and Mary Wigman's dance careers and friendship along with photographs to aid in this presentation beginning with Wigman's first performance in 1914 and Holm teaching and running the Wigman School of the Dance in New York beginning in 1931. The excerpts from letters written by Wigman begin on Dec. 29, 1930 (the day after her first U.S. performance) and conclude with one of her final letters from Feb. 1970. Letters from the World War II period including economic difficulties, government problems and her Jewish students.
