- Summary
- John Mazzola, President and Chief Executive Officer of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts at that time, speaks about his supportive role in the creation of the institution of New York public theaters such as the Vivian Beaumont Theater, by helping Joseph Papp to produce Shakespeare Festival's productions on Lincoln Center stages. He talks about Lincoln Center as the world's leading performing arts center, financial problems of the NYSF's four seasons at Lincoln Center, and fundraising. He also discusses Papp's vision and his legacy as founder and director of the New York Shakespeare Festival Public Theater and the origins of Papp's project to produce Shakespeare and later non-Shakespeare productions free for the public; the importance of the Public Theater as a theatrical organization; and Papp's complicated personality.
