- Arthur Gelb, the managing editor of the New York Times, speaks about his supportive role in the creation of New York Shakespeare Festival by writing positive reviews on the Festival's activities thus indirectly promoting them, and later editorializing Joseph Papp's productions. He also discusses Papp's vision and his legacy as founder and director of the New York Shakespeare Festival Public Theater and the origins of Papp's project to produce free Shakespeare productions in Central Park as well; the importance of the Public Theater as a theatrical organization; and his complicated personality.
