- These committee letters concern the formal transfer of Grant's tomb from the federal government to the City of New York (March-May 1897). Contributors include President William McKinley, Vice President Garret Hobart, various justices of the Supreme Court, and members of congress. The Grant Monument Association was formed in 1885 for the creation and maintenance of a tomb for Ulysses S. Grant.
