- American playwright John Guare discusses his career as a playwright and his experience working with Joseph Papp on some of his plays such as Two gentlemen of Verona, the musical (music by Galt McDermot ; lyrics by John Guare ; adapted by John Guare & Mel Shapiro), Marco Polo sings a solo, and Rich and famous during Papp's project of free Shakespeare productions played in various parks throughout the five boroughs of New York City (Shakespeare in the Park) and in the New York Shakespeare Festival Public Theater as well. Guare also speaks about his relationships with other playwrights, producers, directors such as Mel Shapiro and with Joseph Papp during the New York Shakespeare Festival in the 1970's-1980's. He also criticizes Papp's mentoring methods in casting and hiring the right directors and producers for his productions.
