  • Leonid Zhdanov, born 1927 in Moscow, studied ballet with Nikolai Ivanovich Tarasov. He was a principal dancer with the Bolshoi Ballet, partnering Galina Ulanova, Marina Semionova, Raissa Struchkova, and others. He taught at the Bolshoi Theater Ballet Academy for fifty years. He was also a passionate photographer, capturing dancers from his own time as well as the later artists of the Bolshoi Ballet. He published many books of ballet dancers, particularly Maya Plisetskaya. His photographs and negatives are now part of the Leonid Zhdanov Foundation, managed by Reborn Art of Moscow, Russia. He died in 2010.
