- Summary
- American actress/writer Kathryn Grody discusses her career at the Public Theater. She talks about her experience working with Joseph Papp, first as an actress and later as a playwright and performer in her autobiographical play "A mom's life" (1990) during the New York Shakespeare Festival. She speaks about her relationship with Papp and about his personality. She also reminisces about the conflict between Papp and Bernie Gersten that led to Papp firing Gersten from his job at the New York Shakespeare Festival in 1978. After Mandy Patinkin joints the interview, they both criticize Papp for firing many of their co-workers who helped Papp to create the New York Shakespeare Festival and worked with him for many years. They also mention that Papp never gave them a second chance to work with him producing their plays and never re-hiring them for any other theatrical positions.
