- Summary
- American dramatist and teacher David Rabe discusses his career as a playwright, and his experience working with Joseph Papp on some of his plays such as "Sticks and bones" (about a Vietnam veteran's return from war), and "Boom boom room." He talks about the theatrical history of "Sticks and bones" that was produced as an off-Broadway production (directed by Jeff Bleckner) in 1971 at Joseph Papp's Public Theater, and moved to Broadway by Papp in 1972, and about critical reaction and audience response to the play. Rabe also reminisces about the reasons he refused to produce his other play "Steamers" at the Public Theatre. He also talks about Papp's personality and his role as a producer and director of the New York Shakespeare Festival and the founder of the New York Shakespeare Festival Public Theatre, and about his professional relationship with Papp.
