- Summary
- Amyas Ames, who served as chairman of Lincoln Center from 1970 to 1980, speaks about his supportive role in the creation of the institution of New York public theaters such as the Vivian Beaumont Theater, and about his meetings with Joseph Papp whom Ames brought in as a theatrical consultant to help the Theater using Papp's experience as founder and director of the New York Shakespeare Festival Public Theater. He talks about Lincoln Center as the world's leading performing arts center, the financial problems of Lincoln Center, and fundraising. He also discusses the importance of the Public Theater as a theatrical organization, and Papp's complicated personality.
