- The first book published under the pseudonym "Fiona Macleod," which the author William Sharp employed to write books about Celtic spirituality, a subject which he delved into after meeting the poet W. B. Yeats at Coole Park. Sharp created for Macleod the persona of a Highland lady recluse. Not until Sharp's death did Yeats, and George Russell, with whom "Macleod" also corresponded, learn that the Macleod persona was Sharp's creation. "So seriously did Sharp take the pseudonym, so fully did he assume in 1894 the personality of 'Fiona Macleod,' that he wrote under her name in a style different from his own, sent letters for her to friends in a feminine handwriting, complained to friends who wrote to her that they never wrote to him, and eventually almost collapsed under the strain of double life."--Richard Ellmann, Yeats: The Man and the Mask (1948).
- Sharp was a member of Dante Gabriel Rossetti's circle.
- Dedicated with letter to "E.W.R." (Edith Wingate Rinder).
