Summary
Mewborn, in New York, conducts this interview on the phone with Sharon Redd (1st) and Ula Hedwig (2nd), two members of the trio called "Formerly the Harlettes" who used to perform with Bette Midler, in orter to obtain material for the article he is writing regarding the reemergence of female trios. They talk about the trio's activity after becoming independent, their ambition to create solo albums, and the essence of their performances. Mewborn and Redd compare the style of Formerly the Harlettes with that of LaBelle, and female trios of the 60s with those of the 70s. Mewborn and Hedwig discuss singers Ronnie Spector's and Dusty Springfield's current careers, the difficulty of working in a group, and the positive and negative aspects of female trios being managed by male producers.
