Summary
An academy award winner for the best actress role in the 1937 film "A star is born" by D. Selznik, and an accomplished painter, Gaynor, who lives with her husband in Palm Springs, is in New York for a part in the Broadway play "Harold and Maude" by Colin Higgins. The play, adapted from the movie of the same title, is the topic of this interview whose plot and characters Mewborn and Gaynor analyze before they compare and discuss Gaynor's old film roles and previous stage experiences. Gaynor recounts her life story and film career, and explains the reason for leaving the movies. Mewborn quotes headlines from the clippings of old magazines about Gaynor that he found in the NY Public Library for the Performing Arts, and she provides details. For the last 30 minutes, thosepresent in the room (Gaynor, her husband, Mewborn, the photographer, and an unidentified person) exchange comments and jokes as the photos are being taken.
