Summary
Allen, who replaced C. Woodard and Weeks, who replaced A. De Shields in the musical Ain't misbehavin', talk about their 2 week intense rehearsals, friendship among performers, possibilities to find suitable roles and analyze reasons and intricacies that make a show successful. They discuss their previous roles and the issue of reforming the parts of replaced predecessors. Weeks recalls B. Streisand, with whom he was in a show when she wasn't yet a superstar and they gossip about her and Sidney Chaplin; and Allen and Mewborn speak about Ellen Foley, an actress and singer, with whom Allen performed in the short-lived 1977 show 3 Girls 3 and with whom she was friends. The three talk about the difficulty of succeeding on TV and the few chances given to shows both on stage and on TV to become profitable, and analyze intellectual drama versus sheer entertainment.
