The show later became one of the longest-running productions in Broadway history. Avian also speaks about his personal and professional relationships with Michael Bennett, the production's director and choreographer, with Donna McKechnie, the actress who played the role of Cassie, and with Joseph Papp, the producer and the founder of the New York Shakespeare Festival.
