- Moore writes with a sense of intimacy and playful humor about: Muki's daily life and piano lessons; animals (often enclosing postcard pictures of them), including ladybugs (which she sketches in a letter of Jan. 24, 1962), dogs, and especially cats; Moore's poetry; and later, reminiscences of times spent together when Muki was a child, Moore's personal life, Muki's mother (Beata Wachstein, for whom Moore expresses love), and the need to persevere in the face of illness and other challenges.
- Muki Wachstein married and became Muki Wachstein Fairchild.
- Beata Wachstein, who became Beata Wachstein Sauerlander after her second marriage, is the mother of Muki Wachstein and the daughter of Elizabeth Mayer.
- Elizabeth Mayer (1884-1970) was a German-born American translator and editor, closely associated with W.H. Auden, Benjamin Britten, Peter Pears, and other writers and musicians. She translated Adalbert Stifter's Bergkristall (1945) in collaboration with Marianne Moore.
- A.l.s. of Dec. 19, 1958 is a photocopy, though one of the 4 color printed images referred to in letter is present.
