Summary
  • First Look documents the first ever U.S. exhibit of post-revolutionary Cuba's art, introducing the work of Eduardo "Choca" Roca and Nelson Dominguez and several of their compatriots, as they visit San Francisco and New York, and meet such well known artists as James Rosenquist and Alice Neel. First Look provides a fascinating examination of a previously unseen dimension of Latin American culture, as well as a subtle exploration of the complex relationships between art and society.
  • Through interviews with Roca, Dominguez and other artists, including the late Wilfredo Lam, the film surveys the exciting diversity of contemporary Cuban art and presents a picture of lively experimentation and diverse efforts to define an authentic Cuban visual style.
