Local Note
Berg Collection holds no. 12 (January 1981). This issue contains: Clear Lake journal / Tom Veitch -- Ten poems / Bernadette Mayer -- Six poems / Ted Berrigan -- Three works / Carl Rakosi -- from The relation of my imprisonment / Russell Banks -- Ten poems / John Godfrey -- Tell me again / Alice Notley -- Five poems / Elio Schneeman -- Eight poems / Lewis Warsh -- Journal 1978 / Allen Ginsberg -- Thin places / Clark Coolidge.
Berg Collection copy of no. 12 formerly owned by Ted Berrigan and annotated by him in three places. Berrigan was a contributor to this issue, and in his own poem "Round About Oscar," he has added two words and made several changes to the syntax. These changes are not incorporated into Berrigan's Collected Poems. Berrigan also added a lengthy annotation in black pen to Tom Veitch's "Clear Lake Journal," with references to Houdini and Freud. Finally, he added the names of fictional cover artists to the list of his colleagues' UA publications on the final page, a way of interpreting their poems or perhaps merely having some fun. He notes, for instance, that Clark Coolidge's "Own Face" features a cover by Andrew Wyeth, and Bert Stratton's "Gigging," a cover by the fictional artist with the Yiddishized last name "Heinz Meshuggenah."
