- Summary
- This lecture is about the importance of a good education for successful playwriting. Anderson, a playwright and screenwriter, relates to the audience of young dramatists his teaching, learning and writing experiences, his familiarity with the work of various theater directors, the value of reading and rereading plays with an analytical approach, methods to create exciting plots that progress and thus hold the public interest, little nuances that generate dramatic suspense and keep it going, and many other playwriting techniques. In order to demonstrate his ideas, Anderson evaluates various plays and authors such as T. Williams, O'Neal, Miller, Shakespeare, Ibsen etc., and compares contemporary drama to the old classics. Towards the end of the lecture, Anderson responds to numerous specific questions.
