- Summary
- Segment one: Joel Grey introduces and interviews such performers and guests of the concert as American jazz singer Sarah Vaughan, composer of popular and classical music Kay Swift and musicologist Deena Rosenberg during the intermissions. They discuss the life and collaborative work of two brothers, Ira (lyricist) and George Gershwin (composer). Also includes excerpts from documentary film on George Gershwin.
- Segment two: Joel Grey announces the concert of Tex Beneke and his orchestra that plays popular musical compositions of two great jazz bands of the 1930's-1940's, Glenn Miller's and Jimmy Dorsey's, as a tribute to both of them. Grey interviews such performers and guests as Helen O'Connell and Bob Eberly, popular singers of the 1940's, and George Simon, a close friend of Glenn Miller and the author of Miller's biography. Also includes excerpts from biographical documentary film tribute to Glenn Miller.
