Note
  • Recording of class taught by Ted Shawn at the Jacob's Pillow, in Lee, Mass., in 1952. The recording includes Shawn's directions and explanations to the class with respect to his work Primitive rhythms as well as the piano and percussive accompaniment. From ca. 55 sec.into track 6, the recording of the class cuts off, and unidentified choral music is heard until ca. 2:30 min. into track 6, when the class resumes. From ca. 3:00 into track 10 through ca, 3:45 of track 13, the subject of the class is the evolution of Christian prayer and related movement exercises; the latter part of track 13 and track 14 contains music for Primitive rhythms. Carol Lynn is heard at several points in the recording, in voice-over, making very brief remarks about the class.
  • Sound quality is fair. There is some distortion in the sound due to deterioration of the original recording as well as occasional extraneous noise and gaps. But, for the most part Ted Shawn's voice is intelligible.
