  • London-born Claude Marks, 1916-1991, was a painter, writer, and lecturer on art. His specialty was theatrical portraits, and his books included Theatre sketchbook (1982). Ballerina Alicia Markova, 1910-2004, began her long and distinguished career with Serge Diaghilev's Ballets Russes. As a dancer, choreographer, company director and teacher, she was a prominent figure in the ballet world.
