- Summary
- Action drawings of three musicals and an operetta presented in New York City at Broadway theaters. Two drawings depict Carmen Jones, an updated version of Georges Bizet's opera; one of these features Muriel Rahn, who alternated with Muriel Smith in the title role. Two drawings of A Connecticut Yankee respectively depict various dance scenes from the musical and (in color) a dance duet by Vera-Ellen (Mistress Evelyn Al Belle-Ans) and Jere McMahon (Sir Gawain). "The Merry Widow waltz" portrays Marta Eggerth (Sonia, the merry widow) and Jan Kiepura (Prince Danilo) in the operetta's climactic dance, choreographed by George Balanchine. Oklahoma! is depicted in two b&w drawings respectively portraying Celeste Holm (Ado Annie), Joan McCracken, and McCracken and Eric[k] Hawkins. Oklahoma! may also be the subject of a watercolor painting of two unidentified dancers.
