- Summary
- Costume and set designs for Jean Giraudoux's play, including two costume designs for the role of Bertha and one each for the roles of Hans and Yseult. The set design appears on the verso of the design for Bertha's Act II costume. A design labeled simply "Bertha" appears on the verso of the costume design for Yseult. With the exception of Yseult's design, all of the costume designs contain multiple figures and details. Bertha's Act II costume design includes the designer's notations.

- Jean Giraudoux's play Ondine, written in 1938, told the story of the doomed love between a water nymph and a mortal man, Hans, a knight who is already betrothed to the princess Bertha. Pavel Tchelitchew designed the sets and costumes for a production directed by Louis Jouvet at the Théâtre de l'Athénée in Paris in 1939.
- The Russian-born painter and stage designer Pavel Tchelitchew began to work in the theatre early in his career, and was admired for his innovative use of new materials and lighting effects.
- Richard Park Beard, 1925-2009, the former owner of these drawings, made his debut as a professional dancer with Ballet International in 1944, and subsequently danced with Ballet Theatre, Ballet Society, and the New York City Ballet. He also danced and choreographed for television and nightclub shows.
