- Daniel Auber's opéra-comique Le domino noir was first presented at the Théâtre de l'Opéra-Comique-Bourse, Paris, in 1837. The soprano Laure Damoreau-Cinti played the leading role of Angèle, a novice nun who dons a black half-mask (the "domino noir" of the title) in order to enjoy a last night of freedom before taking vows. This print may depict a scene from the opera.
