Summary
Carla Thomas, a native of Memphis, Tennessee, often called the Queen of Memphis soul, is interviewed on the phone by writer Whitesell. They talk about Thomas's background, her family, her education, her collaboration with her father and brother, and her career. They discuss soul music and blues and the musical tendencies in her home town. Thomas and Whitesell analyze certain popular music groups and recording companies, most notably Stax Records, and the reasons behind their rise to stardom and eventual downfall.
