- Summary
- The topic of this interview between Whitesell, a record collector and a writer, and Rolontz, a music industry vet who was former editor of Billboard magazine, the musical director of RCA Victor R&B labels Groove and Vik. and vice president of corporate public relations for Warner Communications, is Alan Freed, a disc jockey famous for promoting blues, country and rhythm and blues music on the radio, presenting music played by black musicians rather than the same versions performed by whites, and naming this genre "rock and roll." Rolontz, who knew Freed from Cleveland, remembers him as a genuine lover of music and an enthusiastic worker, and comments on the changes in his personality after he took a job in New York.
