- Summary
- Griggs, a musician in the musical group The Coronets that performed and recorded in the early 50s, talks about the beginning of his interest in music while singing at school and churches, the group The Orioles that influenced him and his fellow musicians the most, and approaching the famous jockey Alan Freed in order to gain recognition. He rather negatively refers to Freed and contradicts the idealistic depiction of him by providing some arguments. Griggs defines the essence of soul music, reflects upon the heritage of certain genres of music developed by black musicians, and describes the financial, or, as he calls it "capitalistic" side of the music business.
