- Summary
- Burlison, a pioneer rockabilly guitarist and a founding member of The Rock and Roll Trio, who was raised in Memphis, Tennessee, recounts his early exposure to music and learning to play the guitar, the influence of gospel music from local churches in Memphis that inspired him, and discusses the tendency common for musicians in Tennessee in the 40s to take black blues music and mix it with country and gospel, the very music Elvis Presley later introduced on a national level. He speaks about his fellow musicians Smokey Joe Baugh, Johnny and Dorsey Burnette, Bill Black, and others, and tells many anecdotes from his and their experiences, encounters, tours, concerts, rehearsals and such. He talks also about his stay in NY, the bond he had with two other members of the trio, their success in reaching out to different generations, and provides details about the careers and destinies of various performers whom Whitesell identifies from his vast collection of records issued in the 1930s and1940s.
