- Summary
- Helen Hayes, known as "The first lady of the American Theater," explains the circumstances that prevented her from studying acting professionally when she started her career and what made her realize that she needs training (while acting in Pollyanna in 1917) in order to develop necessary acting techniques. She speaks about the importance of natural breathing for articulation, ability to perceive other persons' emotions and project and interpret them, her method of working on a role and getting into character, her opinion on the role of the director and more, and defines a "process of elimination in acting in rehearsals."
