- Description
- 1 audio disc (approximately 48 min.) : digital, mono; 4 3/4 in.
- Summary
- This is only part of the interview with Carnovsky, a stage and theater actor. The complete interview can be found in the published book "Actors talk about acting" held by LPA in MWEQ 1961. Carnovsky defines some values of the Group Theater and theater as art reflecting life. He explains the circumstances under which actors became politically involved, discusses Stanislavsky's Method, acting techniques, interpretations of various roles by him and other actors, and debates the issue of an actor being a creative or interpretive artist. He expresses his negative opinion of unclear speech and speaks about the tendency of mumbling (mentions Brando who might have started this trend). Carnovsky also talks about life experiences, historical facts and his heritage that shaped his interpretation of some of his roles. A deep analysis of actors in productions of Shakespeare's works in this country and England follows and is interrupted.
