- The Frogs of Aristophanes was originally presented in 405 B.C. Athens, where it won first prize at the Lenaean Festival. Writer Burt Shevelove adapted the play for a performance at Yale University in 1941, then reworked his adaptation into musical form in 1974 in collaboration with composer/lyricist Stephen Sondheim.
