Sandström (lighting designer, dance critic) ; panel: Brian James McCormick (Gay City News, New School for Public Engagement), Marina Harss (The New Yorker, The Faster Times, DanceTab), Elizabeth Zimmer (critic, author, educator), Karen Hildebrand (Dance Media), Andrew Horwitz (also known as Andy; Culturebot, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council). Topics discussed include difficulties of earning a living as a dance writer only, the importance of criticism in the dance world, and the change in assignment legnths (print versus online).
  • Reel 2. Senior critics award lecture by Nancy Goldner (ca. 68 min.) Goldner discusses her career, especially her concentration on the career of George Balancine. She also recounts an anecdote of trying to come up with a unique angle for the annual Nutcracker article and discussing the work from the perspective of the Christmas tree.

Digital dance and the 21st century dance writer (ca. 86 min.) / moderator: Alyssa Schoeneman (artist, critic, blogger -- Dance in Real Life) ; panel: Marc Kirschner (Tendu TV), Vladimir Angelov (choreographer), Jennifer Edwards (writer, blogger, stress management consultant), Ryan Wenzel (Bodies Never Lie, The Brooklyn Rail, Henry Street Settlement). Topics discussed include the role of social media in distribution of work, importance of analytics, using media alongside written works, the merits and shortcomings of watching dance on video/film, and curated sites versus personal blogs as avenues for the modern dance critic.
  • Reel 4. So you think you can ignore dance on TV? (ca. 87 min.) / moderator: Lisa Traiger (The Washington Post, From The Green Room, Washington Jewish Week) ; panel: Vitolio Jeune (Garth Fagan Dance, former finalist "So You Think You Can Dance"), Kate Lydon (Dance Media), Tonya Plank (blogger - Swan Lake Samba Girl), Adam Sklute (Ballet West). Panelists discuss their involvement in various dance reality programs and how their careers and career aspirations were effected by their involvement, the factors leading to Ballet West's involvement in the BBC-produced reality program Breaking Pointe, relationship between dance publications and dance television shows (both documentary-style and scripted programs). Excerpts of Breaking Pointe and the dance reality webseries Dance 212 are screened and discussed.
