- Summary
- Unique artist's book in the form of an album/scrapbook created in an altered copy of: An atlas of classical geography / constructed by William Hughes and edited by George Long, formerly professor of ancient languages in the University of Virginia ; with a sketch of classical geography, and other additions, by the American editor. New York : Sheldon & Company, publishers, 1867.
- Title, name of the group and date inscribed in pencil on blank leaf preceding original title page as: "luceo. 2012. RUST BELT a technical manual."
- On most pages the original text and maps have been partly or wholly effaced. From page v through page 32 and map 1, a square cutout with burnt edges, approximately 12 x 12 cm, replaces most of text and map image; several other leaves also contain apparently burnt-out portions. Portions of remaining original text and maps are appropriated as part of the new work. Contains numerous mounted original instant film snapshots by members of Luceo and various collaged artifacts such as found photographs, ephemera from commercial establishments, dried flowers, matches, a guest towl, etc. Material collected during the group's trip to the Northeastern States, chiefly Ohio and Pennsylvania. All supplied text is handwritten, in ink on photographs and in pencil elsewhere.

- "In 2009, LUCEO set about to document rural America. We began with a few simple rules: we would visit towns that epitomize what it means to live outside of the metropolitan mainstream, we would work together to bring our content producers to each town, and we would gather content as a team in order to capture the snippets of daily life that make up the collective essence of what it means to live in the quieter spaces of the United States"--Luceo Images Web site, viewed December 11, 2013. This is the second project in the "Few and far between" series, following "Few and far between: West travelogue" (©2011).
- "Our second large group trip--this time with all six members of LUCEO--is next week. We will cross the rust belt as a team stopping in small town after small town night after night. We will gather contacts, images, video, sounds from each of these towns and gather as a group each night to discuss our days and help each other edit ... Stay tuned for updates from the road January 30-February 9, 2012"--Kendrick Brinson, quoted on Luceo Images Web site.
- "Objective: To create a one-of-a-kind print publication suitable for the shelves of the New York Public Library's Photography Collection"--Luceo Images Web site.
