- Summary
- Ken Dewey interviews Oren Lyons, an artist, educator and chief of the Turtle Clan of the Onondaga Nation. They talk about the cultural factors of arts and education and their values, how individual creativity, such as crafts, is important within certain cultures, the class divide, the difficulty of applying the dominant culture's rules to a society, and the motivation of the individual artist to create. Integration and segregation of the schools is also discussed. Lyons describes art as a "well-fed pet", which should be taught to children.
