- Lee Edward Stern, host, on the radio program Speaking of dance, introduces his guests, Sallie Wilson and Daniel Levans; Sallie Wilson speaks (briefly) about the filming for television of Antony Tudor's ballet Pillar of fire; Wilson speaks about her background and early dance training in Fort Worth, Texas; moving to New York and studying with Margaret Craske and Antony Tudor at Ballet Arts; the circumstances of her joining Ballet Theatre [later American Ballet Theatre] and then the Metropolitan Opera ballet; Daniel Levans speaks about his dance training and professional experience; Wilson speaks about Tudor's statement that he looks for more than technique in a dancer; her thoughts on being frequently cast in the same kinds of dramatic roles; Levans speaks about Tudor's statement; Wilson and Levans speak about the relationship between Tudor's choreography and the psychology of the characters in his works; Levans speaks about his role in Eugene Loring's ballet Billy the Kid including as compared with his role in Tudor's ballet Undertow; the importance of the costumes in Undertow; Levin's and Wilson's view that a dancer should not be typecast, for example as a character dancer; the public's narrow conception of what constitutes classical dance; Wilson's and Levin's definition of classical dance, including its encompassing of Tudor's ballets; Wilson's roles during her year with New York City Ballet; Levans and Wilson speak about Eliot Feld; Stern's concluding remarks.
